When Genealogy Blogs Are Cousin Bait

Happy Easter

It is true, genealogy blogs really are cousin bait.  Every morning I check my blog for the daily stats.  The stats record which posts were read, and the referring search engine or weblink for my blog.  Last week I had Twitter as a referrer!  I have no idea how my blog made it to Twitter.

My highest ranking read posts are those related to the Eckebrecht siblings of my second great grandfather Fritz Eckebrecht, my Farindola ancestry posts that were read around the time of the avalanche that destroyed Hotel Rigopiano, and specifically the surname Marcella, the post on my Anabaptist ancestors from Switzerland, any posts related to Filomena Napolitano, and all my blog posts listing my surname lists and place lists.

I’ve had cousins in Switzerland, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Italy, France, and Germany contact me after finding this blog.  Not to mention the cousins in the United States that have emailed me as well.  I am grateful they have read my blog and contacted me because I learn so much from them!

This morning when I checked my daily stats, a referrer was the Ethnicity of Celebs website.  Specifically that page is a link to the actor/musician Thomas Ian Nicholas Scarnecchia. The page used my blog as a source for his ancestry.

So now I know that my third cousins are actor/musician Thomas Ian Nicholas (Scarnecchia) and his writer brother Tim Scarne (Scarnecchia)!  They are the great grandsons of my great grandfather Carmine Ferraro’s sister Elena Ferraro and her husband Angelo Scarnecchia.  This makes our common ancestors our great great grandparents –  immigrants Angelo Ferraro from San Prisco, Italy and Filomena Napolitano from Nola, Italy.

Cousins,

thank you

for finding and reading this blog and for sharing your stories!
